The Auckland Jewish Council was established in 1981.
The objectives of the Council include representing Auckland Jewry in the media, outside organisations, parliamentary submissions and government relations; liaising with the Wellington Jewish Council and the New Zealand Jewish Council.
It has as its membership the Astor Foundation, Auckland Chevra Kadisha and Benevolent Society, Auckland Hebrew Congregation, Auckland Jewish Burial and Benevolent Society, Australasian Union of Jewish Students, B’nai Brith Lodge, B’nei Akiva, Habonim Dror,, Hadassah International, Holocaust Oral History Group, Jewish Young Adults, Kadimah College, Maccabi, The Council of Jewish Women, The Progressive Jewish Congregation of Auckland, WIZO, and Zionist Federation of New Zealand.
